The Facility Maintenance Technician is an hourly, non-exempt role and a key member of the operations team, dedicated to maintaining a safe, clean, and well-kept environment that supports the learning and well-being of students, staff, and visitors.
This role is critical to upholding MSS's high expectations for safety, functionality, and aesthetics. The Technician is expected to be proactive, solutions-oriented, and deeply invested in creating a facility experience that meets the highest standards of excellence. This role is responsible for monitoring the overall quality of the school's grounds and facilities, identifying areas requiring attention, and conducting timely resolutions to maintain the highest standards of safety, compliance, and cleanliness. This role will be required to perform other duties as assigned to support the needs and priorities of the organization. Meeting Street Schools retains the right to change or assign other responsibilities as necessary.
Core Responsibilities:
Facilities Management:
Conduct regular inspections of the school grounds, including hallways, classrooms, restrooms, kitchen areas, offices, and outdoor spaces, ensuring all areas meet cleanliness and exceptional maintenance standards
Execute specific recurring maintenance tasks, such as touching up paint, and assembling or moving furniture and equipment, to uphold the appearance and functionality of school facilities
Complete other general repairs and maintenance as needed, such as replacing ceiling tiles and light fixtures, or resolving plumbing issues.
Identify and report cleanliness issues, repair needs, and safety hazards with urgency, ensuring compliance with school policies and regulatory standards
Maintain detailed records of identified issues, corrective actions taken, and follow-up activities to ensure resolution
Ensure classroom doors and other security measures comply with safety protocols, including keeping doors locked as required
Collaborate with the School Operations Manager and Director of Operations to develop and implement quality assurance programs for the school facilities
Work closely with teachers, principals, managers, and security personnel to address concerns and coordinate solutions effectively
Serve as a liaison between the school’s operations team and external vendors or contractors, as needed, to facilitate repairs or improvements
Adhere to safety, security, and emergency procedures, react appropriately during emergency situations, and act promptly to correct hazards. Adhere to security procedures concerning the handling of classroom and master keys, security of facility maintenance areas, proper storage of all chemicals, etc.
Listen to and promptly act to resolve problems and complaints with a strong emphasis on customer service.
Clean and organize facility maintenance, storage, and spaces.
Submit work orders to district partners, as applicable
Operations:
Support all other initiatives of the school Operations team, as needed

Educational Background:
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in facility operations, safety compliance, or related field preferred
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Competencies:
Experience in facility operations, building maintenance, custodial services, or related operational roles in high-expectation environments
Knowledge of safety and compliance standards in educational environments
Have experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems and plumbing systems.
Possess basic carpentry skills.
Have strong mechanical skills for operation and repair of school equipment, and possess the knowledge and ability to perform a variety of general maintenance repairs.
Possess a strong drive to overcome roadblocks and complete all assigned and necessary tasks.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify issues that could impact safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency
Excellent organization skills, with the ability to document and track issues and resolutions effectively
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with diverse teams
Experience with technology, including email, work order ticketing systems, and devices such as laptops and tablets
Ability to work independently and take initiative in identifying and resolving issues
Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and balance competing deadlines
Physical Requirements:
This role requires regular physical activity to support a safe and well-functioning school environment. The Facility Maintenance Technician must be able to:
Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods throughout the workday
Lift and carry items up to 50 pounds unassisted; heavier items with assistance
Push, pull, and move furniture, equipment, and supply carts as needed
Climb ladders or step stools to perform maintenance or inspection tasks
Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and technology
Classification and Benefits:
