What is the role of the Equipment Division? Our Equipment Division exists to provide our operational partner with reliable equipment, at the lowest cost by means of robust systems and professional execution.


Job Summary: The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment and diesel trucks at customer job sites. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to minimizing equipment downtime in the field. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to job sites to perform on-site diagnostics, repairs, and      maintenance 
  • Troubleshoot and repair: 
    • Diesel engines (CAT, Cummins, Deere, etc.) 
    • Hydraulic systems (pumps, cylinders, valves) 
    • Electrical systems (wiring, sensors, ECMs) 
    • Undercarriages (tracks, rollers, sprockets) 
    • Transmissions, final drives, and drivetrain       components 
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM services) and      inspections 
  • Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic      codes 
  • Use diagnostic software and tools (laptops, scan tools, etc.) 
  • Complete service reports, document work performed, and track parts      used 
  • Communicate clearly with customers about issues, timelines, and      repairs 
  • Maintain and stock a service truck with tools and parts 
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies 
Requirements
  •  3–5+ years experience working on heavy equipment and/or diesel trucks 
  • Strong knowledge of: 
    • Hydraulics 
    • Diesel engines 
    • Electrical systems 
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently in the field 
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL often preferred) 
  • Own basic mechanic tools (company may supply specialty tools) 
  • Ability to work overtime and be on-call when needed 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with brands like Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, etc. 
  • OEM training or certifications 
  • CDL license 
  • Welding and fabrication experience 
  • Familiarity with telematics and diagnostic software 

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift 50–100 lbs regularly 
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions 
  • Climb on/off equipment 
  • Kneel, crawl, and work in tight spaces 

Work Environment:

  • Primarily field-based (job sites, roadside, customer yards)
  • Occasional shop work 
  • Exposure to dirt, grease, noise, and weather 

Typical Equipment Worked On:

  • Excavators (e.g., CAT 336) 
  • Dozers 
  • Loaders 
  • Asphalt pavers 
  • Skid steers 
  • Dump trucks & tractor-trailers
